Fine Particulate Monitor APS 302M

Overview
The APS 302 system is a manual method for sampling fine particles (PM2.5 fraction) and is based on impactor designs standardized by USEPA for ambient air quality monitoring. Ambient air enters the APS 302series samplerís system through an omni-directional inlet designed to provide a clean aerodynamic cut-point for particles greater than 10 microns. Particles in the air stream finer than 10 microns proceed to a second impactor that has an aerodynamic cut-point at 2.5 microns.

The air sample and fine particulates exiting from the PM 2.5 impactor are passed through a 47 mm diameter Teflon filter membrane that retains the fine particulate matter. The sampling rate of the system is held constant at 1 cubic meter per hour by a suitable critical orifice. The standard system is supplied with a Dry Gas Meter to provide a direct measure of the total air volume sampled.

Feature
Since air pollution monitoring instruments are frequently shifted from one site to another during monitoring. It is possible that due to shifting and transporting instruments flow meter (Dry Gas Meter and Rotameter) fitted may develop leaks and can lead to errors in displayed reading of these units.To check that flow rate indicated by flow meters and Dry Gas Meter are within acceptable range, calibration of these units needs to be done regularly. It is desirable that at least one-point calibration of flow monitoring device (Dry Gas Meter and Rotameter) is carried out in laboratory before shifting instrument to field for ambient air quality monitoring.

Intermediate flow checks can also be done at place of monitoring in field. A Portable system for intermediate checking of Dry Gas Meter and Rotameters has been developed to fulfill this requirement as indicated in ISO 9001:2008 The APS 116 an intermediate calibration checking system fitted with master Dry Gas Meter and stop watch along with connector and tubing which can be used for calibration of Dry Gas Meter either in situ of instrument or an independent unit for flow rate in field.
